On August 26, 2025, the State Council Information Office held a press conference to introduce the achievements of high-quality energy development during the 14th Five Year Plan period. Wang Hongzhi, Director of the National Energy Administration, stated that China's energy industry has achieved remarkable results since the 14th Five Year Plan.
More abundant energy supply and stronger resilience. In the first four years, the increase in energy consumption reached 1.5 times the increase in the 13th Five Year Plan period. By 2024, the national power generation will exceed 10 trillion kilowatt hours, accounting for one-third of the global total. The total energy production will ensure "sufficient quantity and stable price". At the same time, we will build the world's largest electric vehicle charging network, actively respond to extreme disasters, and safeguard the "lifeline" of energy consumption for people's livelihoods.
The green and low-carbon transformation is accelerating. Build the world's largest and fastest-growing renewable energy system, with the proportion of installed renewable energy generation capacity increasing to around 60%, and the proportion of non fossil energy increasing by 1 percentage point annually, expected to exceed the "14th Five Year Plan" target. The wind and photovoltaic products exported by our country have cumulatively reduced carbon emissions by about 4.1 billion tons for other countries.
Technological innovation has made breakthroughs. New energy and other technological equipment are leading the world, and the scale of new energy storage has jumped to the top in the world. Multiple "major countries' heavy equipment" have been built and put into operation. The flourishing development of new models and business models has become an important source of new quality productivity.
Energy reform continues to deepen. The construction of a unified national electricity market is accelerating, and the "national one grid" for oil and gas has been initially established. Private enterprises have become an important force in promoting energy transformation and transformation.
Wan Jinsong, Deputy Director of the National Energy Administration, stated that energy investment during the 14th Five Year Plan period has shown characteristics of "fast growth rate, excellent structure, and strong vitality", with an average annual growth rate of over 16% in energy industry investment. In addition, the installed capacity of new energy storage in China has increased nearly 30 times in the past five years, and by 2024, the production and consumption scale of hydrogen energy will rank first in the world. The development of new energy has achieved a high-quality leap, and in the future, we will accelerate the construction of a new type of power system, enhance the consumption capacity of new energy, and expand non electricity utilization channels.
