HM-(II) Palladium Catalyst — From Two Towers to One: The Efficient Choice for Gas Purification in the Magnetic Materials Industry

In the production of magnetic materials, nitrogen hydrogenation deoxygenation is a key process. Conventional processes usually use two towers operating alternately, which involves complex equipment, high catalyst consumption, and frequent regeneration, affecting continuous production. Our HM-(II) palladium catalyst is making this old process simpler.
A Dedicated Catalyst for the Magnetic Materials Industry
HM-(II) is a supported precious-metal palladium-based catalyst, mainly used for hydrogenation deoxygenation and, under specific conditions, for eliminating excess hydrogen or oxygen in the hydrogen-oxygen combination ratio. Its core application is nitrogen hydrogenation deoxygenation in the magnetic materials industry, while also removing excess hydrogen during the deoxygenation process.
From Two Towers to One — Its Biggest Difference
In conventional nitrogen purification units, deoxygenation catalysts often require two towers working alternately—one in operation while the other is regenerated—resulting in high equipment investment, and switching operations also add to operation and maintenance burdens. HM-(II) palladium catalyst changes this model.
The catalyst requires no pretreatment or regeneration and can operate continuously for long periods after loading. The direct result is that two towers can be simplified into a single tower, catalyst loading is halved, and the equipment structure is greatly simplified. For companies planning new production lines or revamping existing units, this means lower initial investment and a simpler process flow.
Performance Specifications
The purification performance of HM-(II) palladium catalyst is also noteworthy. At an operating temperature of 180–250°C and a pressure of ≤20 MPa, the residual hydrogen (oxygen) content of the gas after treatment can be controlled at ≤0.5 ppm, meeting the stringent nitrogen purity requirements of magnetic materials production.
Simple Operation, No Regeneration Required
The catalyst is very simple to use: load the catalyst into the reactor, pass gas downward through the catalyst bed, turn on heating and hold at operating temperature for 30 minutes, then introduce the gas to be purified at full load, and purification begins immediately. Throughout the process, the catalyst requires no pretreatment and no regeneration, greatly reducing operating complexity and operation and maintenance costs.
As an important member of the HM series product line of Dalian Sanda Gas Purification Technology Co., Ltd., HM-(II) palladium catalyst provides a simpler and more economical path for nitrogen purification in the magnetic materials industry through its process innovation of converting two towers into one, continuous operation without regeneration, and purification accuracy of ≤0.5 ppm.
