The first green hydrogen coupled coal chemical demonstration project in China has been fully put into operation

Release time:

Nov 21,2025

On November 20th, the 150000 kilowatt wind solar energy storage hydrogen production integrated demonstration project of China Datang Duolun fully began market-oriented operation. This is the first green hydrogen coupled coal chemical demonstration project in China, and the "green electricity hydrogen production+surplus electricity grid connection" collaborative model has been successfully implemented, providing replicable samples for the green transformation of the coal chemical industry.

This project has overcome multiple core technical difficulties, established a deep adjustment mechanism for large capacity electrolytic cells in new energy grid connected hydrogen production, completed the technical breakthrough of the country's first large capacity electrolytic cell in the chemical industry for sustained and stable operation, and filled the industry gap. The project has achieved fruitful results, obtained 28 invention patents, released 3 enterprise standards, and was also selected as one of the first hydrogen energy pilot projects in the energy field by the National Energy Administration.

The system is jointly developed by multiple units, integrating core functions such as wind solar hydrogen storage optimization and scheduling, effectively solving problems such as fluctuations in wind solar output and mismatch between continuous hydrogen production demand. It achieves efficient collaboration between wind solar power generation, hydrogen production, and energy storage, providing intelligent solutions for high proportion new energy consumption, marking a major breakthrough in China's coupling of new energy and traditional coal chemical industry.

According to Cao Guoan, the head of Datang Inner Mongolia Duolun Wind and Solar Energy Storage Hydrogen Production Station, the project is expected to produce 70.59 million cubic meters of hydrogen annually, which can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 138800 tons. The environmental benefits are equivalent to the carbon absorption of 1400 hectares of mature forest in one year.
