Hong Kong and China Gas Collaborates with Sinopec to Develop Hydrogen Energy in Hong Kong, Promoting "Made in Hong Kong" Green Hydrogen

Recently, Hong Kong and China Gas (003) signed a memorandum of cooperation with Sinopec Hong Kong and Sinopec (386)'s subsidiary Star Petro, establishing a strategic partnership to deepen collaboration in the clean energy sector, supporting the national "dual carbon" strategy and Hong Kong's energy transition.
This cooperation covers multiple key areas, including the promotion of hydrogen energy businesses, construction of hydrogen refueling stations, liquid hydrogen storage and transportation technologies, hydrogen-powered charging stations, green methanol shipping applications, and sustainable aviation fuel development. The three parties will also explore the establishment of a joint venture to integrate resources and accelerate the implementation of hydrogen energy projects, improve hydrogen energy and other infrastructure in Hong Kong, and build a competitive industrial ecosystem.
The collaboration actively considers prioritizing "Made in Hong Kong" green hydrogen. Hong Kong and China Gas has an annual hydrogen production capacity exceeding 12,000 tons, with the Tseung Kwan O landfill biogas-to-hydrogen facility further supplementing supply. Sinopec Hong Kong possesses Hong Kong's leading retail network and a vast customer base, along with the city's first public hydrogen refueling station. Star Petro focuses on the new energy industry, having built and operated the world's largest green electricity-to-green hydrogen project for over two years.
Huang Weiyi, Executive Director of Hong Kong and China Gas, expressed hope that this cooperation will advance the development of the hydrogen economy and facilitate applications such as green transportation and hydrogen-powered construction sites. Wu Qinggao, General Manager of Sinopec Hong Kong, stated that the three parties will leverage their respective strengths to accelerate the implementation of key projects, including hydrogen refueling station construction and hydrogen vehicle promotion. A representative from Star Petro mentioned that the company will rely on its technical and resource advantages to focus on critical areas, supporting the transformation and upgrading of Hong Kong's hydrogen energy industry toward green, low-carbon, and diversified development.
