Recently, the China Fuel Cell Vehicle Conference was held in Beijing with the theme of "demonstration leading, hydrogen driving the future". At the opening ceremony of the conference, Ouyang Minggao, an academician of the CAS Member and professor of Tsinghua University, said that the development of fuel cell vehicles has driven the development of the whole green hydrogen energy industry chain. China has formed a complete hydrogen energy battery vehicle industry chain covering all aspects of manufacturing, storage, transportation, processing and use. Globally, China is one of the countries with the most complete fuel cell vehicle industry chain.
In recent years, the technological level of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles has significantly improved, with an increase in range and a decrease in hydrogen consumption, which has driven the development of many vehicle and fuel cell engine enterprises. Hydrogen energy, as a strategic emerging industry, is a key development direction, and fuel cell vehicles are its leading field, which has received high global attention and layout.
Policies have played a driving role in the development of the fuel cell vehicle industry, and China has become the world's second-largest market for fuel cell vehicles, with the largest number of hydrogen refueling stations built in the world. It is expected that by 2025, the existing demonstration city clusters will promote more fuel cell vehicles for commercial demonstration applications. In addition, the development of renewable energy, especially wind power and photovoltaics, will provide favorable conditions for the hydrogen energy industry chain. The cost of producing green hydrogen from green electricity is expected to be comparable to coal based hydrogen, providing more possibilities for the development of new energy vehicles.
However, Ouyang Minggao also pointed out that the current core issues of hydrogen fuel cells are still technological improvement and cost reduction, especially the technological level and cost of core components such as membrane electrodes and catalysts, which have a significant gap compared to foreign countries. China's power battery industry is the largest in the world, with the highest level of technology and exports. Hydrogen fuel cells also need to follow the lead of lithium-ion batteries, continue to improve efficiency and extend lifespan, and reduce costs through technological innovation.
