Spanning Today's Perspective and Expanding the Vision of the 21st Century

Sales of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are soaring, and offshore wind power hydrogen production will accelerate the popularization of hydrogen energy

Release time:

Dec 12,2023

In 2022, the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration jointly issued the "Medium - and Long Term Plan for the Development of the Hydrogen Energy Industry (2021-2035)", which clearly stated that by 2025, China will initially establish a relatively complete supply chain and industrial system, with a total of about 50000 fuel cell vehicles, and deploy the construction of a number of hydrogen refueling stations.

Under the "Dual Carbon" goals, it is imperative to promote the zero emission transformation of domestic commercial vehicles. This is because in the current high-quality development stage of China's economy and society accelerating green and low-carbon, the combination of air quality improvement and "Dual Carbon" requirements has become an important condition for promoting the zero emission transformation of commercial vehicles.

In terms of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, according to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the sales of hydrogen fuel cell commercial vehicles in China increased by 102% year-on-year in the first half of this year, which is twice the overall growth rate of new energy commercial vehicles. With the continuous upgrading of fuel cell technology and the improvement of scale, it is expected that by 2025, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are expected to further reduce costs and may even achieve parity with diesel vehicles.

In the field of offshore wind power hydrogen production, with the decrease in the cost of wind and photovoltaic power generation and the development of electrolysis water technology, the production cost of green hydrogen is continuously decreasing. The off grid development of offshore wind power can convert green energy into local chemical energy through wind power generation, such as green hydrogen, which is very beneficial for the development of hydrogen energy. At present, China's wind turbine production capacity accounts for 60% of the global market, which means that China occupies an important position in the global offshore wind power industry chain. Therefore, offshore wind power hydrogen production is expected to become one of the important ways to accelerate the popularization of hydrogen energy.

Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and offshore wind power for hydrogen production are important trends for future development. With the increasing awareness of environmental protection and policy support, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles will gradually become popular and an important choice to replace traditional fuel vehicles. At the same time, the development of offshore wind power for hydrogen production will also accelerate the popularization of hydrogen energy, providing a cheaper source of hydrogen for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

However, to achieve these goals, some technological and infrastructure challenges still need to be overcome. The core problem to be solved in the future is the storage and transportation of hydrogen energy. Due to the strong escape ability of hydrogen energy, safety issues still need to be addressed.
