Shandong became the first province in China to implement free high-speed passage for hydrogen powered vehicles

The Shandong Provincial Department of Transportation, the Development and Reform Commission, and the Department of Science and Technology jointly announced that from March 1, 2024, hydrogen powered vehicles equipped with ETC kits and operating on highways in Shandong Province will be temporarily exempt from highway tolls. This policy will last for two years and be adjusted in a timely manner based on its implementation. This measure has made Shandong Province the first region in the country to waive high-speed tolls for hydrogen powered vehicles.

According to CCTV News on December 3, 2023, at the China Fuel Cell Vehicle Conference held on December 1, 2023, the "Joint Action Plan for Building China's High Speed Hydrogen Energy" was released. This initiative aims to accelerate the construction of a hydrogen energy high-speed network centered around the demonstration clusters of the five cities of Beijing Tianjin Hebei, Shanghai, Guangdong, Zhengzhou, and Hebei. These five demonstration clusters cover 41 cities, with the goal of establishing a hydrogen energy high-speed network connecting the five demonstration city clusters. The plan also proposes to provide policy support for high-speed operating vehicles and high-speed hydrogen refueling stations, such as reducing highway tolls and optimizing the construction and operation costs of hydrogen refueling stations. Experts point out that this marks a new stage of development for China's fuel cell vehicle industry, and the construction of hydrogen high-speed networks will further promote its large-scale development.

Gou Ping, Deputy Director of the State owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, emphasized at the conference that strengthening the construction of a high-speed hydrogen energy network system is the key to promoting the cross regional and long-distance application of fuel cell vehicles, which will help gradually build a national hydrogen and fuel cell vehicle industry ecosystem. This measure taken by Shandong Province is highly consistent with the "Joint Action Plan for Building China's Hydrogen Energy High Speed", injecting new impetus into the development of the hydrogen energy industry.
