The National Energy Administration promotes diversified applications of hydrogen energy, focusing on transportation and industry

On July 31, the National Energy Administration made it clear at the press conference for the third quarter of 2024 that it would actively promote the diversified application of hydrogen energy in transportation and industry. This decision marks a new stage in the development of my country's hydrogen energy industry and aims to further promote green transformation and low-carbon development of the energy structure.
According to Dong Wancheng, deputy director of the Development Planning Department of the National Energy Administration, my country's energy consumption continued to grow in the first half of this year, its supply capacity steadily improved, and energy supply and demand remained balanced. Data shows that the electricity consumption of the whole society increased by 8.1% year-on-year, of which industrial electricity consumption growth contributed more than 57%, becoming the main force driving the growth of energy consumption. At the same time, consumption of traditional energy such as coal, gasoline, and diesel has steadily increased, while consumption of natural gas and kerosene has achieved rapid growth.
In terms of energy supply, my country's average daily coal output has stabilized at more than 12 million tons, and imports have increased by 12.5% year-on-year; crude oil output has increased by 1.9%, but imports have declined slightly; natural gas production and imports have both achieved significant growth, reaching 6% and 14.3% respectively. In addition, in order to cope with the summer peak electricity consumption, my country has also accelerated the construction of supporting regulatory power supplies to ensure a safe and stable supply of electricity.
In terms of green and low-carbon transformation, non-fossil energy has a strong momentum of development, with wind power and solar power generation accounting for 84% of new installed capacity. At the same time, hydrogen energy is an important part of the future energy system, and its diversified applications are also highly valued. Dong Wancheng emphasized that the National Energy Administration will actively promote the widespread application of hydrogen energy in transportation and industry and contribute to achieving the goals of carbon peak and carbon neutrality.
