Four ministries and commissions jointly solicit research topics on carbon footprint accounting rules and standards for key industrial products

In order to actively respond to the national strategic goal of reaching carbon peak and carbon neutrality, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the National Development and Reform Commission and the State Administration for Market Regulation jointly issued on September 14, 2024 a notice on collecting carbon footprint accounting rules and standards research topics. This solicitation focuses on key areas such as steel, electrolytic aluminum, cement, chemical fertilizers, hydrogen, lithium batteries, new energy vehicles and photovoltaics, and aims to build and improve the carbon footprint accounting system for my country's industrial products.
The notice clearly pointed out that the study will sort out the current status of greenhouse gas emission management of key global and domestic industrial products, and propose a practical and feasible carbon footprint accounting rule and standard system based on my country's actual situation. Special emphasis is placed on the formulation of accounting standards for clean energy products such as hydrogen and methanol to promote the sustainable development of the green energy industry.
According to the working procedures, all industry associations, standardization technical organizations and professional institutions are required to submit research topic suggestions and research reports before September 30. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will work with relevant departments to screen the submitted topics and determine the final development list. Selected projects must submit standard texts before November 1. After expert review and publicity, group standards with excellent performance are expected to be adopted as industry standards or national standards.
