Inner Mongolia has introduced a green hydrogen action plan, aiming to achieve a green hydrogen production capacity of 1 million tons per year by 2027

Recently, Inner Mongolia released two important documents at the China Hydrogen Energy Industry Development Conference and the Third Hydrogen Energy Industry Development Promotion Conference of the Autonomous Region: the "Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Green Hydrogen Industry Pilot Zone Action Plan" and the "Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Green Hydrogen Pipeline Construction and Development Plan".
According to the Action Plan, Inner Mongolia will strive to build a green hydrogen industry pilot zone, with a plan to achieve a green hydrogen production capacity of 1 million tons per year by the end of 2027. To this end, Inner Mongolia will implement five major actions, including enhancing innovation capabilities, improving the quality and efficiency of wind and solar hydrogen production, expanding demand for green hydrogen, infrastructure construction, and strengthening industrial chains.
Inner Mongolia has built a green hydrogen production capacity of 30000 tons, ranking first in the country. It is expected that by the end of this year, this number will double again and reach 200000 tons per year by 2025. Inner Mongolia has a rich modern coal chemical industry and a large number of heavy-duty diesel locomotives, mining heavy-duty trucks, etc., providing broad prospects for hydrogen energy applications.
The plan aims to connect the upstream hydrogen production industry with the downstream consumer market, and achieve large-scale, long-distance, low-cost green hydrogen storage and transportation. Inner Mongolia is making efforts in four aspects: green hydrogen substitution, green hydrogen application, green hydrogen conversion, and green hydrogen export, to achieve the goal of "replacing as much as possible, using as much as possible, converting as much as possible, and exporting as much as possible".
In addition, Inner Mongolia also plans to promote the construction of a "one trunk, two ring, and four export" hydrogen transmission pipeline network, encourage the use of existing refueling, gas filling, and charging stations to build hydrogen refueling stations, and new hydrogen refueling stations can also be equipped with other facilities. Through these measures, Inner Mongolia will further improve the hydrogen energy industry chain, enhance the manufacturing level of hydrogen energy equipment, and form a green hydrogen industry standard and certification system.
